Mr. Wang Youjun, a Falun Gong practitioner, was detained by police from Yueyang City, Hunan Province, on June 7th, 2009. He was interrogated and tortured. After five days, he was sent to the Yueyang City Detention Centre on June 12th. Another practitioner, Xu Genyuan, is also in the same detention centre. A Chinese Communist Party-controlled court began hearing the cases against Huang Youjun and Xu Genyuan on October 15th.

Attorneys Zhang Chuanli and Jin Guanghong from Jingshun Law Firm in Beijing have travelled to Yueyang to defend Huang Youjun and Xu Genyuan.

Mr. Huang recounted the torture and interrogation he went through as follows:

My name is Huang Youjun. I was born in September 1972. I am a Falun Gong practitioner who has been forced to leave his home because of the persecution.

On the morning of June 7th, 2009, I was detained by police from the Junshan and Yueyanglou District Security Teams. I was taken to the Xiaosong Hotel in Yueyang City for interrogation. Shen Wenjun (leader of Junshan District Security Team), Cai Dechun (instructor at Junshan District Security Team), and Jiang Renwu (official from the Qianlianghu Township Police Station) each led two policemen. They took turns torturing and interrogating me.

That evening, Cai hit my face with his fist several times. My nose was bleeding. He used a wet towel to wipe away the blood and ordered me to answer his questions. I refused to co-operate. Zhao Wenhua, who was standing nearby, was assisting Cai and using all kinds of means to coerce me. Seeing that I did not co-operate, Zhao, Cai, and Li Yong forced me to the ground. They tied my hands and feet together with a rope while I was facing down. They hung me up by throwing the rope over a rod above the window and pulling me up. Zhao Wenhua frequently used his feet to kick my head. I was in a lot of pain. I was covered in sweat. Zhao put me down. I still would not answer their questions. Zhao then tied my hands up and hung me up again. Every time he pulled, my wrists hurt.

At this point it was almost dawn. Three people came to take over the shift. They continued to beat and kick me. I was not allowed to sleep, wash my face, or take a shower. This lasted about five days and four nights. On the fifth night, I was taken to Junshan District Security Team for further investigation. Cai Dechun, Xiang Yuehua, and Shen Wenxin took turns beating me. Xiang used a thick bamboo stick to hit my shoulder and used the sole of his shoe to hit me. I was hit so hard that I felt nauseous. Cai used his thumb and index finger to pinch my chest. I was in so much pain that I could have died. Then Shen tied my hands behind my back and continued to beat me violently. After five days and five nights of interrogation and torture, they sent me to the City Detention Centre on June 12th.
